The AOC still wine circuits
1 375 000 hl were sold during the 2005-2006 campaign

46% are sold in hypermarkets or supermarkets:

28% on wine is sold by general distribution and sales on the discount market are estimated at 18% (252 000 hl), up from 12% according to the consumer panel Secodip. 36% of the Languedoc AOC output is exported.

The Muscats of Languedoc circuits 2005/2006

38 610 hl of Languedoc Muscats were put on sale. 

49% of sales were standard supermarket sales, the discount circuit is not used as an outlet for these appellations.  Export only accounts for 5% of output, while the rest of sales take place in traditional circles (wine cellars, direct sales).

The Limoux sparkling wine circuits 2006

In 2006, 9 000 000 bottles of Limoux sparkling wine were sold (about 67 500 hl)
2.3 millions were sold on the standard supermarket network.
25% of the output was exported mainly to the United States (866 000 bottles), Belgium (429 000 bottles), Canada (172 000 bottles) in the United Kingdom (172 000 bottles).

Storehouse outputs

The Storehouse outputs Languedoc AOCs are 1 480 000 hl, more than 200 million bottles (75 cl) were sold during the 2005/2006 campaign.

CONTRACT+ INITIAL MARKETING DECLARATION (IMD)
Before the implementation of the customs reform in 2001, the volumes sold were calculated based on the records at the CIVL of bulk trade purchase contracts and initial marketing declarations made by producers.  After the implementation of the reform, the business volumes are calculated according to the DRM (monthly recapitulation declaration).



Supermarket sales


The Corbieres, Coteaux du Languedoc and Minervois together cover 78% of volumes, 46% by Corbieres

The sales of Languedoc AOCs are evenly distributed between the distributor brands, brand names and generic names, chateaus and properties. 
The lowest price offer is filled by the generic brands in large containers (cubi-plastic container and BIB® -bag in a box). The distributor brands offer in bottles is located in the price range between €1.80 and €2.70 per bottle except for Fitou and Corbieres wines.  Finally, an offer of more than 3 euros groups the chateaux and estates together.

The Corbieres appellation is present on all three market segments, acting as a reference for the price offer of Languedoc AOCs.

Sud de France offer

On the supermarket sales market of Sud de France wines, the Languedoc AOCs have an important place creating more than 25% of turnover for an average price of €2.30 per bottle.

The distribution of wines by price range can be used to better understand the position of each Languedoc appellation in 75 cl bottles.
All of the Languedoc AOC still wines have a range from the lowest to the highest quality.  Some appellations do not have a low price wine, such as Fitou, Faugeres and Cabardes while other appellations maintain a low price offer: Corbieres and Minervois. Finally, other wines are mainly placed in the middle of the range: Coteaux du Languedoc rosés, and Picpoul de Pinet white.

Catering

A firm presence

Languedoc AOCs can be found in 22% of French restaurants.  The production region in the south east consumes more than a third of the circuit volumes.  Average price per bottle is €3.5 (official price) for the whole of France.
Regional operators aim to increase the presence of Languedoc AOCs on this circuit..

The wine cellars

The wine cellars market for Languedoc AOCs

There are 90,000 hL of  Languedoc AOC still wines on this market, 12 million bottles, partly providing for the catering industry. Winecellar distribution represents 8.5% of home consumption (compared to 58% for hypermarkets and supermarkets). According to CNIV- ECONOXE surveys carried out in 2006 on the Wine cellar circuit, Languedoc AOCs are sold by 84% of wine cellars, 84% of outlets surveyed offered more than 29 references of Languedoc-Roussillon still wines..
